Buttermilk Syrup

Cook Time 10 minutes

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 c butter
  • 1/2 c buttermilk or milk/lemon juice substitute- see note
  • 1 c sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions
 

  • In a large saucepan, combine butter, buttermilk and sugar over medium heat. Heat and stir until boiling, about 5 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and stir in baking soda and vanilla. Mixture will foam!

Notes

  • For an easy buttermilk substitution, pour 1 tbsp lemon juice into a 1/2 c measuring cup. Fill the rest of the way with milk. Let sit for 5 minutes before use.
