As a hairstylist, I have one major goal in mastering my craft. And it continually evades me.
I want my hair to air dry looking pretty. I have tried basically every product on the market that assures me it will transform my fluffy and frizzy natural curl into the effortless waves of my dreams.
But it is all a lie, and no matter what I do, my natural hair texture is somehow both greasy and frizzy, christmas-tree shaped, half curly, half limp, and 100% ugly.
So, while my dream eludes me, I have taken a lateral step in discovering how to style my hair overnight and wake up with beautiful curls. I have tried 5 different times in the last month, each time resulting in a hideous arrangement of curls and kinks on my head.
Yikes.
Oof.
Super yikes. This one was an especially ugly disaster.
But I finally got it!
I wore my hair like this all day, and I loved it. This is the perfect style for vacation, or just any day where you want fun and different curls. It takes less than 5 minutes to twist your hair really quick before bed, and you wake up with beautiful curls that last all day. Give it a try!

Products used:
• Moroccanoil Dry Texture Spray
• Kenra Volume Mousse, for straight hair
• Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling cream, for curly/frizzy hair
How To
- Start with hair that is about 90% dry. If you hair is still pretty wet, it won’t dry overnight. The thicker your hair is, the more you need to make sure it’s mostly dry. If you have hair that is resistant to curl, put some mousse in your hair while it is still wet. If your hair tends more to the frizzy side, put a smoothing balm in your hair while wet.
- Part your hair where you usually part. Using this technique, twist hair into rope braids. Keep the hair smooth as you twist. The rope braid is a 2 strand braid. Twist the front section over the back, add hair to the new front section, twist back, and repeat. The thicker your hair is, the smaller your sections should be. I did mine in 4 braids- 2 on each side and 1 in back. Thicker sections will lead to bigger curls; smaller sections for tighter, smaller curls.
- When you wake up, remove the elastics and use your fingers to gently break up the twists. Spray texture spray throughout to separate and define your curls. You’re done!
And this is how it turned out! Super fun and casual curls, right out of bed.
