It never fails. If I’m out and about, looking like I live under a bridge, and I will run into 300 people I know. Or someone will ask what I do for a living and I will sheepishly reply, “Ummmm I’m a hairstylist; please don’t look at my hair.” If I’m dressed up and recently bathed and looking “snatched” (a word I just learned from Queer Eye), I will see no one.
I am trying to minimize my days in public looking like a swamp creature, without really increasing the amount of time I spend getting ready on those days.
So I’ve got another quick and easy hairstyle to add to my Super Fast Style collection! Like my messy bun, angel braid, and mohawk braid.
This look could not be easier. It requires very minimal skills and time.
Twisted Ponytail
Step-by-Step
Part your hair off to one side
Begin twisting your hair away from your face, starting very close to the part.
As you twist back, add more hair from the front. Twist back, add hair, twist back, add hair, and keep on a’twistin!
The twist will travel back as you twist down; the added hair traveling a bit further to join the twist. When you reach your ear, stop adding hair to your twist and continue twisting your hair until you reach the end.
Secure with a bobby pin while you do the other side.
Repeat on the other side, taking care to angle the twist back for symmetry.
Again, stop adding hair at the ear and twist to the end.
With one hand holding the second twist, use your other hand to take out the bobby pin from your first twist. Make sure no stray hairs are in your twists, and join your twists together with a small elastic.
Gather all of the hair into a low ponytail.
Using your finger, poke through the ponytail- below the twist and above the hair tie. Poke all the way through, right down the middle.
Spread the “hole” a bit. I have been trying for 5 minutes to figure out how to phrase that better. Ew. Don’t think about it.
Flip your ponytail through the hole.
If you prefer a messy bun, you can use a couple of bobby pins after you pull the ponytail halfway through for a loose messy knot.
For me, I prefer a ponytail for this look. It’s soft and romantic but also casual and easy. Sometimes I’ll quickly curl the ponytail if I want to dress it up a bit.
It just takes a couple of minutes, and makes me feel so much more put together and so much less ashamed to tell grocery store cashiers that I do hair for a living.
Let me know if you try this! What do you do with your hair when you get a Super Fast Style?
