I gotta level with you guys- this 2 (or 4, if you want get fancy) ingredient Shamrock Soda is really as involved as I am willing to get for St. Patrick’s Day.
If your family is really into the Leprechaun traps and corned beef and cabbage and other such shenanigans, more power to you! Truly! I’m sure your kids will have treasured memories of St. Patrick’s Day.
My kids will have memories of digging through their closets for something green, and drinking these Shamrock Sodas. And they’ll like it. Because in my day, we had to walk uphill, both ways, in the snow, to find a green shirt for St. Patrick’s Day.
Really, no matter where you land on the holiday celebrations, any little thing you do to make the day special will be remembered happily by your little people.
So, If you are like me and want to rustle up something beyond easy for St. Patrick’s Day, this is for you! Dash on out to the store and grab some sherbet and some Sprite, and you are the holiday MVP to your kids.
Unless you live in Colorado Springs, because I had to go to 4 stinking stores to find Lime Sherbet! What the heck!
Also- Why, for almost my entire life, did I pronounce sherbet as “Shur-bert?” I still try to spell it with the extra R.
This is really hardly a “recipe.” But I’d never heard of Shamrock Sodas until I met my husband. These are a tradition in his family for St. Patrick’s Day. They also do corned beef and cabbage but I just can’t get down with that.
The recipe for these is really complicated. Are you ready? Scoop some lime sherbet into a clear glass (so you can see the green). Pour on some Sprite.
Ready for step 2?
Drink it. Phew. You hung in there, and we did it together.
I don’t particularly go nuts for Sprite and sherbet, so I like to add a splash of pineapple juice and a squeeze of fresh lime to mine, but that is completely optional!
Kids go nuts for this stuff. Serve it with a green straw, and call it your new St. Patrick’s Day tradition!
