I’ve always loved a good hair accessory. From butterfly clips to bedazzled hair pins to those weird claw hand band things from the early 2000s, I never miss a chance to adorn my hair with whatever is currently trendy.
Luckily, I think hair accouterments are moving in a more flattering direction, and there are so many fun and adorable options for spicing up your hair now. Move over, rhinestone headbands and butterfly clips. But I guess scrunchies are back for an encore… Fashion is confusing.
In any case, I am loving these super cheap and super cute hair accessory finds from Amazon! Adding a hair accessory can save second day curls, add some interest and personality to a boring ponytail or bun, and pull your whole look together.
Bunny Ears Scrunchies
Bunny Ear Bow Scrunchies – $9.94 for 6 bows
I’ve seen lots of hair scarves around these days, but they’ve always felt a bit too Sandra Dee to me. These shorter, velvet ones are perfect! I don’t understand how we live in a universe where velvet and scrunchies are back in style, but shhhh just go with it. I love it.
Here are a few ways to style these versatile bows!
Tying your usual ponytail with the bow scrunchy adds a touch of femininity and softness. Not to mention, the scrunchy is a lot more comfortable than a tight elastic, and naturally lends itself to a softer looking ponytail.
Tie off the end of your braid with the bow. My hair is a little short for this, but I love it for longer hair!
Add your bow to the top of a low messy bun. So cute!
For a different look, but the bow below the bun. I like this look a lot more with a big, full bun, but my hair is a little short right now for that.
Pull your hair half back, low and loose, and tie with the bow. I love this look! Position the ribbons under the ponytail, for a soft and romantic look. Over the ponytail can sometimes look a little school-girl.
Secure a high messy bun with the scrunchie, and position the bow under the bun. Love this look for dressing up a lazy hair day!
Or, position the bows on top of the bun. This is another look I like more with a big messy bun, but I still totally rock it with my tiny buns. Tiny hair buns, that is… Ahem. Moving.
Tying a low side ponytail with this scrunchy bow is one of my favorite looks. Soft, feminine, and just pretty.
I love the look of a half braid tied off with the scrunchy. It’s even prettier with longer hair.
Some of the long hair scarves can be intimidating and a little over the top, but these scrunchy hair bows are so easy and fun! I love them.
Hair Clips and Pins
Jaciya Hair Accessories – $9.99 for 15 clips
This set of accessories includes 3 different types of clips- Big alligator hair clips, smaller alligator hair clips, and snap clips. There are SO many possibilities with these hair clips. The alligator style clasps are great for securing braids and twists, holding back sections of hair, and adding to updos.
The snap clips are so pretty for pulling hair halfway back. I love them!
A few ideas for styling…
Maybe this is kind of Little Mermaid, but I love it! The small clips are perfect for securing just a little bit of hair right off the heavy side of your part.
Another look for the smaller alligator clips is to take a small section of hair on the heavier side of your part, and pin it straight back.
Some days, the heavy side of my part with my bangs is doing exactly what I want it to do, so I don’t want to pin in back. I love to pin back hair on the smaller side of my part, angled high up. This look is great for showcasing fun earrings and leaving the swoop of your bangs. It’s great for dressing up and looking a little mysterious.
The different alligator clips are perfect for securing any braid or twist. It’s so much prettier and more secure than bobby pins. Just insert slightly under and completely over the braid or twist, and snap closed.
Use one of the large alligator clips to pin back a big section of hair off of your part.
I love using a large alligator clip to gather hair from both sides of my part into an asymmetrical half up do. The gorgeous clip is visible from one side, and the side swept look is so soft and pretty.
I absolutely love these snap clips. The simplest look is to gather the top part of your hair smoothed back, and just secure with the clip. When using these clips, slide the underneath pin under the hair your are gathering. Make sure all of the hair is inside the clip, and snap closed.
Instead of gathering one section to clip back, this is what it looks like to take a section from each side of your part and secure them together in the back. Just hold the sections together and place inside of the clip, and snap the clip closed.
Twist back sections on both side of your part and hold together at the back of your head. Place inside of the clip and secure. Such a simple and pretty look!
Another option is to gather your hair into a half ponytail or pun, and clip a pin above. In this case, the pin isn’t actually holding the hair, and is just adding embellishment.
This is my favorite look. Take a section of hair from each side. Gather together in the back, and twist together. Place the clip directly over the twist, and secure. I love the look of the soft twist combined with the geometric clip.
I hope you give simple, inexpensive, and pretty ways to change up your go- to styles a try!
