Homemade dinner rolls don’t have to be only for special occasions. Made in just ONE HOUR, these rolls are soft, fluffy, buttery clouds of heaven!
I am completely powerless to warm bread fresh from the oven. If I decided to go low carb, home baked bread would be my undoing. I just don’t want to live a life without warm bread in it.
In the past, homemade bread and rolls have been a rare occurrence for me, simply because I never have my life together enough to remember at 2 in the afternoon that I want to eat rolls with dinner at 6 p.m.
More likely, I’m making soup and thinking gol dern it, I want some rolls with this. But my impatient family won’t wait until 9 p.m. to eat.
My super quick and amazing breadsticks are always there for me during these times, but sometimes, you just want a roll. Some meals are better suited for round and fluffy rolls than cheesy and garlicky breadsticks.
I mean, let’s be real, there is not a meal that is not improved by fresh baked goods. But with this 1 hour roll recipe, you can get picky with your carbs.
1 HOUR DINNER ROLLS
These rolls are an absolute dream come true. Super simple to prepare, done in a flash, and roll perfection. They are perfect for a weeknight soup situation, serving for company, or any time where you find yourself needing a roll, and soon.
This recipe makes 15 rolls, and is super easy to double and bake 2 9×13 pans side by side in the oven, should you be feeding a group. Or, honestly, just feeding a group of people particularly fond of rolls, because I could eat 4 of these without even coming up for air.
What is it about warm rolls and butter? If there aren’t warm rolls and butter in heaven, I don’t want to go.
But I feel confident that they will be there. So I better live right.
These belong on your table. For soup night, pot roast, Thanksgiving, and any roll-opportunity in between.
If you prefer your carbs in loaf form, this One Hour French Bread is also a miracle. But if you’ve got the time, Mama Robin’s Rolls can’t be beat, man.
One Hour Dinner Rolls
Ingredients
- 1 cups water
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon active-dry yeast
- 3.5-4.5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons melted butter for brushing on top
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F. Prepare a 9×13 baking dish with cooking spray.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, stir together the water, milk, butter and honey. Microwave for 1 minute, and stir. Continue microwaving in 30 second intervals, until butter is completely melted and temperature is warm but not hot. It should feel warm, but not so hot that you need to immediately pull your finger out.
- Pour the liquid mixture into the bowl of a stand mixer. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and give it a quick stir. Let sit for 5 minutes, until the mixture is foamy. If the mixture doesn’t foam, start over! Your water was likely too hot.
- Add 3.5 cups of flour and salt, and mix on medium speed until fully mixed.
- On medium-low speed, continue adding flour until the dough cleans the side of the bowl. Knead in the mixer on low for 5 minutes.
- Transfer dough to a lightly greased bowl and cover with a towel and let rise for 20 minutes.
- Gently punch the dough down. Divide into 15 equal pieces and roll each piece into a ball. Place in the prepared 9×13 dish, and let rise for another 15-20 minutes.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown on top.
- Remove rolls from the oven and immediately brush the tops with melted butter. Serve warm! If serving later, warm for 15 seconds in the microwave.
