Making homemade frozen pizzas is easy, cost effective, and so delicious! With just an hour or so of hands on time, you can make 3 or 6 homemade pizzas to have your freezer stocked. Pizza night has never been tastier or cheaper!
Friday night is pizza night at our house.
I love having homemade pizza, but I hated having to plan ahead to make the dough and allow for rising times. So we most often ended up eating store bought frozen pizza, or ordering pizza.
I love greasy take out pizza as much as anyone, but dang, that stuff can be expensive! Unless you are slummin’ it with Little Caeser’s (which, no judgement there, I actually secretly love Little C’s). But even Little’s C’s can’t compete with the price of these homemade frozen pizzas. And not only are they extremely cost effective, they are so delicious! Homemade pizza tastes so much fresher, is so much less greasy, and you can make it with whatever toppings you enjoy!
My little stinkers insist on only pepperoni pizza, so for this pizza-making session, I made a whole bunch of pepperoni pizzas. But we also love BBQ chicken pizza with barbecue sauce, mozzarella cheese, chicken, red onion, and cilantro. I love to make a white pizza with my lighter alfredo sauce and top it with all kinds of vegetables. And I can’t lie- I love a classic Canadian bacon and pineapple. I know some people are staunchly opposed to pineapple on pizza, but I love it, and I’m not ashamed!
How to Make Homemade Frozen Pizzas
The first time you make frozen pizzas at home, it takes a little bit of prep work. There are a few options here for storing your pizzas in the freezer. You can save cardboard discs from frozen pizzas, cut your own out of cardboard, buy metal pizza pans… You need something flat to place your pizzas on in the freezer. I cut out 12 inch circles from a cardboard box, and wrapped them tightly in saran wrap, sealed with tape on the bottom. After I take my frozen pizza off to bake, I can rinse these off and reuse them.
This recipe makes 3 12-16 inch pizzas. Obviously, the smaller your pizza, the thicker the crust. I doubled the recipe to make 6 pizzas. This is the absolute max amount of dough my KitchenAid can handle. But having 6 pizzas ready to rock and roll in the freezer is worth the effort! Divide your dough into 3 (or 6, if you double it) equal pieces and roll them out into roughly circle shaped discs that are a few inches larger than your pizza circle.
Place your pizza circle on top of the rolled out dough.
Grab the pizza and the disc and flip them over. Stretch the dough to the size of your disc.
Top however you like! Then wrap up the pizza tightly in saran wrap. Freeze flat overnight. You can stack them right on top of each other. After that, you can store them vertically to save room in your freezer.
When you’re ready to bake, preheat the oven. Don’t take the pizza out of the oven until the oven is hot and you’re ready to cook. Remove the pizza from the cardboard and bake for 18-25 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is hot and melty and delicious.
Homemade pizza that can be prepared weeks, even months in advance, ready any time you want it! The crust is better than any homemade pizza crust I’ve ever had. Once a month or so, have a pizza prepping party so you can have an easy pizza eating party any time you want!
