I don’t post beauty tips and tricks because I am an expert on all things beauty.
I post them because if I can do this, anyone can. Before I went to cosmetology school, I didn’t even know how to do a french braid.
And while I would never consider myself an expert on looking perfect and flawless, I do sort of claim some expertise on looking pretty good while also being pretty lazy.
This is really my wheelhouse. Simple, fast, effective beauty tips and tricks to get you feeling a little more put together and on with your day.
If you want advice on nailing a cut crease or perfecting your lipliner, I’m not your gal. But if you want advice on transforming from swamp creature to passably well groomed before your kids trash your bathroom, girl I can hook you UP!
This beachy wave is my go-to hairstyle. It takes less than 5 minutes, and is very forgiving with wonky hair. It can be fancy or casual, and it makes me appear to have my life together. Jokes on you, people at the grocery store! I probably forgot to brush my teeth this morning, but my hair is lookin’ supa fly.
Side note, why is this style called “beachy waves”? This is not what my hair looks like at the beach. This is what my hair looks like at the beach:

Anywho, here’s the video of how I get my hair in these loose and pretty waves. And if the video is confusing or you just don’t like the video, scroll on for the step by step!
Step 1: This style works best on not-squeaky clean hair. Clean hair tends to be too slippery to hold curl well. But if your hair is clean, just mess it up with some texture spray or hairspray for better grip. Start by pulling up about 2/3 of your hair.
Step 2: Curl all sections around your face away from your face. Starting about 1/3 down the hair section, warm the hair before closing the clamp. Thread the hair through to almost the ends, leaving the last 1/2 inch or so out, and wrap the curling iron all the way up.
Step 3: This is where it gets just a little tricky. With the hair still clamped, pull the curling iron through the curl. Rotate the curling iron in the direction of the curl (back away from the face) until your hair is twisted in a coil. Pull down on the curling iron while you twist, to stretch the curl out.
Step 4: Leave the curl just like that until you’re done curling your whole head.
Step 5: When you get to the front pieces, make sure to start curling your hair about 1/2 way down the section, to get that “swoop” of your bangs. You don’t want a tight curl that goes all of the way to the root in the front.
Step 6: When you’re all done, comb through the curls with your fingers. Shake them out, loosen them up, and give them a spritz of texture spray and/or hairspray.
And you’re done! I love this hairstyle because it is SO forgiving. Some parts can be looser and if you hair wasn’t smooth to begin with, it doesn’t even matter. It’s supposed to look loose and lived-in and like possibly you have won the genetic lottery, and your hair just always looks like this. #iwokeuplikethis #noididn’t #butitonlytook5minutes
