I like to feel put together, and I do not like to spend a lot of time becoming that way. Enter my 5 minute face.
This is how I put my face on, 90% of the time. It’s quick and easy, and effectively makes me look like I actually slept the night before. Sheesh, my under eye bags would definitely qualify for an additional baggage fee on any airline. It’s a great go-to every day routine, and is easy to customize if you want to get fancy. This quick make up look is 25% about make-up skill and practice and 75% about perfect products. You can achieve this look with a variety of products, but the ones featured in this video are my absolute favorites. I use Maskcara IIID foundation here, which is such a fast and easy way to get coverage, contour, and highlight all in one compact, and one brush. But you can use the general tips and routine with any face make-up you prefer.
You guys, I tried to take pictures of the make-up process for you. I tried to get stills from the video, which did not work. And then because I REALLY love you guys, I actually look off my makeup and tried again to take pictures as I re-did it. And they were terrible. Just so awkward.
Exhibit A. Oof. And I got a million more where that came from, equally as ugly and ineffective at demonstrating make-up technique.
So, I will detail a few of the finer points via the written word, but you’ll just have to power through 11 minutes of my awkwardness in video form to get the full experience.
TIPS FOR A FLAWLESS FIVE MINUTE FACE
• Do as I say and not as I do, and start with your eyes. I normally do my eyes first but I got all nervous and distracted and did my face first in the video. You can use your face makeup to clean up any eye make-up that got wonky.
• Prime your eyelids first. Primer is a MUST. It helps your eyeshadow stay put, but it also makes your eyeshadow color pop, which allows you to use less product, and gives you a smooth finish for blending. It also helps prevent creasing in your eyeshadow. You can use your foundation, or I also really like Urban Decay primer.
• Start your eye make up with your eyebrows. It makes a great frame for your eyes. Just a tiny bit of brow definition makes your eyes pop and just overall makes you look more put together. I LOVE Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip brow. You can use also use a brow pencil, or a dark shadow with an angle brush. I like to make a more defined line along the top and bottom of my brow, and then fill in with little hair strokes with my angle brush. Finish it off with the spoolie end to soften the look.
• This is a great eyeshadow combination for any eye color. I will try to put together a more detailed eye-make up how to soon, with good pictures and a better video! But in the mean time, here are the colors I used, and where!
• I really love the NYX Epic Liner. Use a light hand and apply from the middle out, scooting to the inner corner carefully and with a really light hand. I like to use an eyeliner pencil to fill in right at the base of my lashes on the upper and lower lashes, to fill in any gaps in the line and make sure the lash line is completely filled. I only do about the bottom 1/3 of my lower lashes, to make the eyes appear larger. I like to use an angled brush again to smudge and soften the line on top and bottom.
• Apply 2-3 coats of mascara, building while the mascara is still wet. If your mascara is clumpy or dry at all (and it’s less then 8 weeks old- if it’s older, toss it), set it next to your warm flat iron or curling iron, or even in your bra, to warm it up and loosen it up!
• I made this really beautiful picture to demonstrate how to HAC (highlight and contour) in a flash. The orangey color represents your main highlight color, with the lighter yellow representing a brighter highlight color for under your eyes and forehead. The dark color is obviously contour, red for blush, and white for illuminator. I apply it all in the order I just listed, and blend as I apply for gettin’ fancy in a flash. If you’re interested in trying out Maskcara, keep on a’scrolling for your chance to win a palette and brush! And if you don’t win, just shoot me a message and let’s talk Maskcara!
• I don’t have an oily face, so I don’t usually set with powder. Set with a powder if you tend to be oily, and/or finish with a setting spray if you have one. I am ordering some of Maskcara’s Stay Spray and will be using that soon!
You’re done! Go forth and conquer your day. Whether that means conquering deadlines and tasks or conquering some chips and queso is up to you. I’ll give you one guess which one I’ll be taking down today.
